Wills, Trusts & Succession

Death and taxes - we cannot escape them, but we can often mitigate the Inheritance Tax and we can “die tidily” and substantially save costs in the process. Making a Will is about making positive choices on the eventual division of assets. Two of the most seriously mistaken assumptions that elderly people often make are firstly to believe that their estate will automatically pass to some particular relative without this being recorded in a Will and secondly to believe that their family can be relied up on sort out the succession to their estate informally but amicably. In reality the rules of division of an estate with no Will are a minefield and bring very unexpected and unwelcome results. Too often they seem ill suited to an age of widespread marriage breakdown, co-habitation, step-families and civil partnerships.

It is also the case that additional costs of administering an intestate estate will, in the great majority of incidences be much higher than the costs of making a Will would have been.

We offer a fixed fee ‘simple’ will for a flat rate of £100 (plus VAT). Simple wills are obtained through completing one of our easy to follow Wills Questionnaires which have a Guidance Sheet to explain any unfamiliar legal technology. Contact Kenneth Haughney if you would like a copy of the Wills Questionnaire and Guidance Sheet to be posted to your home.

Please note that this service is only suitable for enquirers whose legal domicile is in Scotland.
